We live in a society where we have access to the greatest amount of information in the shortest possible space in time, yet we choose to believe and forward information received via email because we are trusting and caring. We want to warn others!
This is a great personality trait and I dread the day that people no longer has these, I however have a bit of a hobby. I like to research and find out what the story behind the story is. Is there a virus? Is the child missing and what were the real circumstances? Where did it really happen? Do people really steal other people's organs and leave them in baths with ice packs and a phone at hand? Do gangs drive around without lights ready to rape and pillage as in the age of the Vikings? Are there drugs that can incapacitate you and make you vulnerable by touch only?
In most cases all of the rumours has some base of truth. That base of truth is often the one thing that make you think that it is possible that things can go just a bit further... this is where you then send it on to the next unknowing person, and the next and the next...
Most of these turn out to be urban legends, or might have happened in an isolated case in some far off country with an even bigger crime and drug problem than in South Africa. I will try to relay some of these on the web site for you and to outline their validity but in general it is easy to find out whether they are true or not by just doing a basic search.
