As mentioned before morning sickness was most probable named by a male, as most woman who suffers from it, will tell you that it is an all day sickness and is triggered by strong smell. One of my friend's mothers could not stand the smell of toilet spray during pregnancy and to this day she is adverse to the smell.
You might find the smell of smoke and alcohol specifically nauseating other smells that are strong might also be off-putting. Your favourite food might be put on the back burner and some other changes might occur.
These are all normal, and this is thought to be caused by the oestrogen your body is flooded with.
It is also indicated that nausea worsened when a woman's blood sugar level drops, most pregnancy books, tells you to have a biscuit before getting out of bed in the morning. There is also people who believe in the "clean" smell of lemons, the home baked goodness of banana loaf, the list is endless.
For me it was not just morning sickness I was ill the whole day, and a number of triggers were found to worsen it. Since you have a heightened smelling sense it does not help. Although you will be glad to know that it is just the first couple of months, in most cases.
Even the medication provided by my doctor did not take it away although it made it slightly better. The worse of this time is that you are feeling very pregnant but not looking it, you'll find that people are not as sympathetic with you during this period of time as there are no visible effects of your pregnancy.
The morning sickness coupled with the fatigue you will feel the first couple of months could really wear you down, and with all those hormones you are a walking time bomb. Husbands beware!!!
The best is to try several smaller meals during the day which will help combat some of the ailments, but in general you need to understand that baby-making is now your body's main function and that you are now secondary. In most cases these symptoms will pass, and you will become a glowing pregnant women.
Some Advise:
Eat regularly to avoid blood sugar levels from plummeting.
Try the smell of fresh lemons, it has been noted that smell of cutting fresh lemons offers some relieve.
Eat some biscuits or crackers before getting up in the morning.
If you have food cravings or aversions let your body guide you.
Drink lots of liquids especially water between meals.
Rest and exercise might also be beneficial.
Eliminate fatty and greasy stuff from your diet.
