Vaccinations

Petro Pretorius [23 August 2008] -

To vaccinate your child is a personal choice you as a parent make in the interest of your child's health. Regardless of what your decision is it should be made after discussion with your health care professionals. This decision should be made once you have weight all the factors, the pros the cons. If you have doubts then you should keep on digging until you have found peace of mind.

I can tell you from personal experience that taking your beautiful baby to the clinic for their injections is as stressful time for you and your baby. Sympathetic clinic sisters would tell you that in most cases the mother is as much in tears as the baby.  My husband who is a very non-violent person, was upset to the point of contemplating physical violence when he joined me for the last of the big injections when Mia was five months old. He kept saying that there has to be a better way of doing this.

In today day and age we have options, we can make use of the six in one vaccine, which made its début in 2007. As a parent I must say that in my mind it seems obvious that it would be better to have one injection and get it over with, as opposed to the individual ones that leaves you and your baby confused as to when this torment will end.

If you think that your child should wait a bit longer before you start the vaccination regime then you wait a while longer. If your child seems ill then you should wait as well, your aim should be to get the vaccinations done at optimal conditions.

I always preferred getting this done in the morning for a couple of reasons, Mia was well rested, fed and in good spirits. It also provided me with the rest of the day to keep a close eye on her after she got the vaccination.

I was lucky Mia never, to date, had any adverse effects from the injections and I am happy to continue with the outlined vaccinations.
