Dr Jean-Pierre du Buisson

Dr du Buisson; is part of the PlanetParent Expert panel. Here is more about him in his own words:

"I am a obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Panorama Medi-Clinic since  January 2007. I took over Dr André Smith's practice.

I studies pregraduate at Tukkies; and think that this is where my love for  obstetrics started. After this I moved to Cape Town and worked at the Military hospital for 5 years; amongst others in obstetrics and anaesthetics. I then travelled and saw the world as a doctor on a Pleasure cruiser; what an experience. I then specialized in obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Stellenbosch. After completing this degree, my wife and I left for England; where we worked for 23 months. I worked in Cheltenham as a clinical assistant, I gained a lot of experience especially in obstetrics whilst working here. After this I worked as a specialist in the Paarl provincial hospital for a year before setting up in private practice.

I am happily married to Lubina, a trained physiotherapist, for nearly 5 years. She is currently full-time mum to our two lively boys. Hendré was born in England on 19 June 2005; Walter born 26 September 2007in Panorama MC, I tended both births. My wife is one of the bravest women  I know!!!

Lubina enjoys running and thus every now and again we load the boys in joggers and I set off to they and stay with her. I am a keen kite surfer and like to DIY around the house. Family time is important to me and as that I try and be involved and help as much as possible around the house.

I am interested in obstetrics, as well as problem pregnancies. I am also interested in female cancers on chronic pelvic pains. I have been helping out with “vrae wat pla” for Baba en Kleuter the since March/April. As far as obstetrics goes I am pro vaginal births in a normal pregnancy; yet feel that every women is entitled to choose what type of birth she would like to have.

I am also looking forward to being part of this "great" initiative."
